The finale event on the third day of Nostalgia Festival Poznań is the premiere of the album Taratil 'id al-milad by singer Barbara Kinga Majewska and pianist Marcin Masecki. The artists will perform on Sunday, 25 November at 7 p.m. at the Jesuit Fathers’ Church in Poznań.
The project by Majewska and Masecki features traditional Polish Christmas carols performed in Arabic, for instance Ibn Mariam dża-a [Gdy się Chrystus rodzi] and Fi saknat al-layli [Wśród nocnej ciszy].
The artists interpreted the carols both linguistically and musically. All the songs are sung in Arabic, in a dialect from the Aleppo area in Syria. They also changed the key of the pieces: from the familiar major to minor, which can be associated with sounds from the Middle East.
The album Taratil 'id al-milad is a coproduction of Bołt Records and the Malta Foundation. It is released on cd and analogue record. The album will be available on the day of its festival premiere, 25 November, at the Jesuit Fathers’ Church.
